Special Edition Piano for Steinway & Sons
Inspired by the Mid-Century Modern style, the design of the Astor is a new take on a design classic: The Steinway Model B Piano.
The design revolves around the idea of creating a piano that is elegant without being overwhelming, that respects tradition and speaks to the aesthetics and quality of the brand.
Steinway and Sons focuses primarily on sound quality but also on tradition and diverse craftsmanship skills. The new design celebrates a long tradition and the legacy of the brand where most of the piano parts are still hand-made and hand-fitted by local artisans in New York City which is part of what makes the brand unique.
The Astor’s new design elements, such as the forward-facing legs, slightly curved surfaces and bronze inlays in the wood, are intended to reflect light in such a way that light and reflections become protagonists of the design.
The new lyre design consists of a cast brass piece that holds the pedals and acts as a connection between the legs. This geometry creates a fluid transition between them rather than interrupting it with an extra piece, and in a way, it becomes a discreet ornament that gives the piano a unique character without being excessive.
